PostSubject: Pen Spinning Idleness   Tue Oct 15, 2013 8:48 am

Reposted from UPSB.

Why do I suddenly feel like pen spinning is not that exciting anymore? Although I don't want to quit, I don't spin more often than before. Also, I learn in a very slow pace. Is there anything that I can do? Or do I just need to spend more time pen spinning?

PS: Luma na 'tong post ko na 'to sa UPSB. Medyo nasosolusyonan ko na ngayon. Pero problem parin siya.

Please share your insights, views, or opinions.
Also, feel free to share your experiences in relevance to this topic.

Well, i have a theory.. Sometimes, when your favorite spinner quits, the tendency is you also feel like quitting... XD Something like that.

It can be base on our schedules.

I think you lost your "motivation" to pen spinning.

That happens to me too. Sometimes I lose my motivation when I think I never improve,or become at least popular like others. Especially when I see a new rising-star pen spinner on youtube.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
solusyon:

I've been spinning for 5 years na, and within that 5 year span nakailang breaks na rin ako from PS. Ang nagpapastop sakin mag PS is yung personal "Improvement Wall".

I've read/heard this topic in different versions pero I'll try to explain it the best I can. This is something na applied to anything you try to learn. Part ng learning process sa kahet anong field, mapa sports, subject sa school or what.

As someone na getting into a hobby like PS, ang mindset natin is to learn, asap. Gusto mong gawin yung mga nagagawa nung nakita mong guy. When you start PS you try to learn yung mga basics like charges, passes, sonics, etc. Within the span of 1-2 months hindi mo na mabibilang sa daliri mo ang number of tricks na magagawa mo. Masarap yun.

Then things get complicated. This is where you hit your "Improvement Wall". It's not that you're not getting better, sadyang mahihirap lang ang hinaharap mong challenges.

Sanay sya na kapag ginusto mong araling ang isang bagay, matututunan mo in a few days or so. Dito na papasok yung fatigue sa paulit ulit mong attempts, frustrations dahil hindi mo maacheive yung goal mo sa inaasahan mong time span , at insecurities and doubts sa sarili mong skill level.

Tricks learned > Time/Effort - Start of PS
Tricks learned = Time/Effort - After a year or so
Tricks learned < Time/Effort - When talagang advanced na level mo.

This is where you hit your "Improvement Wall".

This is all normal. Tao ka eh. Human beings strive for improvement. Kapag hindi naaachieve ang goals nadidisappoint. The question is pano mo masosolve?

Sa experience ko at sa mga natutunan ko over the years, here are some effective things to do para maprevent getting stuck in your "Improvement Wall":

1.) Keep goals achievable: Try to keep things easy on yourself. Wag mo babaliwalain dahil improvement parin yun. Which leads us to number 2.

2.) Reward yourself: Never forget to reward yourself.

3.) The bigger the goal, the greater the effort required: You can't expect to learn power tricks the way you learned charges and sonics. You have to understand na you're taking on something on a different league. Hindi na basics yan. If you can keep this in mind mas tatagal ang motivation mo to do something, hopefully enough for you to actually learn it.

4.) Intent: Whenever may ginagawa ka, kahit ano pa yan, you're doing it because of something. You do something in order to achieve something. Lahat may INTENTION. You have to show your intentions. Keep it clear. Make it obvious. You can easily spin for a year without learning anything. Pero try to spin for a week with clear intent towards learning, meaning alamin mo kung ano aaralin mo, kung paano mo sisimulan at kung paano yung gusto mong kahinatnan ng trick, and you will learn. Promise yan. :)

So that's it for me. I know things are easier said than done. I was aware of all these on my 3rd break palang. Pinagaralan ko talaga bakit ako tinatamad mag ps. And yet to this day nakaka more than 5 breaks nako on my PS Career. Pero it's easier for me to come back since aware nako sa nangyayare sakin.

Damn. Ang haba pala ng post ko. Type lang ako ng type. :))

Idleness is a normal thing. Like for me. Personally, ngayon lang ako nagbalik PS after 1 year. Not because of the "Improvement Wall" as the main reason, but school things.

But actually, this idleness is a weapon of MASS DESTRUCTION. Believe me, I'm not exaggerating. It is very very normal for a person para magsawa. But once nagsawa ka, and you come back, the urge to learn new things. The urge to be greater. The urge to be good is at maximum. Now, use that to your advantage.
